Letter from the President

jordan sillsMy name is Jordan Sills and I am the President of the San Francisco Hillel Board of Directors. I have been active in the Jewish Community of San Francisco for 10 years, serving as President of the Young Adults Division of Jewish Community Federation and volunteering at the Jewish Home.  Recently, I volunteered to help steer our Hillel because I believe that college is a critical time when students make decisions that impact the rest of their lives. As you know, Hillel is on the front lines of providing these students with meaningful Jewish experiences, encouraging them to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life.  Hillel also provides each Jewish student with a home-away-from-home experience, where they can feel comfortable as a Jew and explore their relationship with their heritage and with Israel.

I am inspired by the dedication of the staff and the enthusiasm of the student leaders. I am proud that they want to learn about Israel and advocate on campus for a sustainable peace. I take pleasure in hearing their stories when they return from their birthright experience. I am moved by their dedication to social justice, whether through trips to the Gulf Coast or locally in San Francisco.

The amazing growth at our Hillel over the last few years is a success story of Jewish renewal on our University campuses. We have seen student attendance at events double. Students are answering the call to support innovative Hillel programs, including regularly volunteering at local food banks and homeless projects. Our Students Care!

San Francisco Hillel is a unique multi-campus model, impacting 3,200 Jewish students across San Francisco. Yet, it is still one of the most under-resourced Hillels in the country. Our Board of Directors is a group of extremely dedicated volunteers, but we cannot do it alone. Please consider getting involved as we help your children and help create the next generation of Jewish leadership.

Please browse through our website and join me in helping Hillel to thrive.  Your generous tax-deductible donation will enable us to enrich the lives of these students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world.

Sincerely,

Jordan Sills
